We understand that circumstances may change, and projects may sometimes need to be canceled or modified due to unforeseen situations. To ensure clarity, fairness, and consistency, we have established this Cancellations & Refunds Policy, which outlines the terms under which projects may be canceled, the eligibility criteria for refunds, and the process for resolving any related disputes.
Our goal is to strike a balance between flexibility for clients, protection for freelancers, and maintaining a trustworthy and professional platform. We want to ensure that both parties are treated fairly, and that cancellations or refunds are handled transparently to minimize disruption while respecting the work already completed.
By using Task Up, you agree to comply with this policy and engage in good faith when requesting cancellations or refunds. Whether you are a client adjusting project requirements or a freelancer facing unforeseen constraints, this policy ensures that transactions are managed professionally and equitably.
We believe that clear communication and mutual understanding are the best ways to resolve issues, and we encourage all users to communicate openly before escalating any cancellation or refund requests. Our dispute resolution system is designed to support users when disagreements arise and to find fair solutions when necessary.
This policy applies to all transactions and projects conducted on Task Up and provides an effective process for handling refunds, disputes, and cancellations.
By adhering to this policy, you contribute to a positive, professional, and transparent ecosystem where freelancers and clients can work together confidently, knowing their rights and responsibilities are protected.
2. Project Cancellations
At Task Up, we provide both clients and freelancers with options to manage their project engagements effectively. We understand that circumstances may change, and our platform is designed to handle such changes smoothly while protecting both parties' interests.
A. Client-Initiated Cancellations
Clients have the right to request a project cancellation at any point before completion, but refund eligibility is determined based on the project's progress and agreed terms.
✔ If work has not started – The client is eligible for a full refund of any funds held in escrow.
✔ If work is in progress – A partial refund may be issued depending on the completed milestones or deliverables.
✔ If work is completed – Refunds are not guaranteed unless the freelancer has failed to meet project specifications.
Clients are encouraged to discuss cancellation terms with freelancers before submitting a formal cancellation request through Task Up.
B. Freelancer-Initiated Cancellations
Freelancers may need to cancel a project due to unforeseen personal, technical, or professional reasons.
✔ Freelancers must notify the client as soon as possible if they are unable to complete the project.
✔ If a freelancer cancels before work has started, the client will receive a full refund.
✔ If partial work has been completed, Task Up will review the progress and determine whether a partial refund or alternative solutions (such as assigning a new freelancer) are necessary.
Freelancers who frequently cancel projects without valid reasons may be subject to account restrictions, penalties, or suspension.
3. Refund Eligibility Criteria
Refunds on Task Up are case-dependent and assessed based on multiple factors, including project progress, freelancer performance, and adherence to original project terms.
A. Work Progress & Milestones
✔ Refunds are only granted if:
● No work has started.
● No deliverables have been provided.
● The project fails to meet agreed specifications.
✔ Refunds are not granted if:
● The work is partially or fully completed as per project requirements.
● The client changes project expectations after acceptance.
● The freelancer has already invested significant time and effort in delivering the project.
B. Non-Delivery or Missed Deadlines
Refunds may be requested if:
✔ The freelancer fails to deliver the work within the agreed timeframe.
✔ No progress updates or communication have been provided by the freelancer.
C. Quality & Specifications Disputes
Refunds may be considered if:
✔ The final work does not meet agreed specifications.
✔ There are significant errors, inconsistencies, or missing elements.
✔ The freelancer fails to revise work after agreeing to do so.
If the freelancer’s work needs revisions but is not entirely unusable, Task Up may approve a partial refund instead of a full refund.
D. Mutual Agreement for Refunds
✔ Clients and freelancers are encouraged to communicate directly to reach a mutual refund agreement.
✔ If both parties agree on a refund, Task Up will process the refund according to their terms.
4. Dispute Resolution and Refunds for Disputed Projects
If a dispute arises regarding payment, project quality, or completion, Task Up provides a dispute resolution service to ensure fairness.
A. Dispute Resolution Process
✔ Task Up will review evidence from both parties, including:
● Work samples, project deliverables, and revision history.
● Communication logs regarding project expectations, delays, or disputes.
● Any agreements made between the client and freelancer.
✔ A neutral Task Up arbitrator will review the case and determine a fair resolution, which may include:
● Full refund to the client.
● Partial refund based on work completed.
● No refund if the freelancer met the agreed terms.
The arbitrator’s decision is final and binding for both parties.
5. Cancellations Due to Policy Violations
Task Up reserves the right to cancel projects, withhold payments, or take corrective action if a violation of platform policies occurs.
Fraudulent Transactions – False claims, payment manipulation, or scam activities.
Misrepresentation of Skills – Freelancers must accurately present their qualifications.
Unethical Behavior – Harassment, abusive communication, or unprofessional conduct.
Intellectual Property Violations – Use of copyrighted or plagiarized content.
6. Refund Process and Timeline
✔ Refunds are processed through the original payment method.
✔ Clients will receive an email notification once the refund is approved.
✔ Processing time is 7-10 business days, depending on the payment provider.
Task Up does not process refunds for off-platform transactions.
